Alpharetta: THE City for Female Entrepreneurs

wemadethat_630x420-300x200I love Georgia, business, and promoting women.  So when I see a headline that embraces all three- I’m tickled pink!  It would seem that Alpharetta has been named by Goodcall.com as THE city in the US for female entrepreneurs.  Here’s the full article regarding the stats and other cities that made the top ten.

Here are the metrics they used:

  • Difference in educational attainment:This metric represents the percentage of women versus the percentage of men who have achieved a bachelor’s degree or higher. This data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s ACS Survey and represents 30% of our overall score.
  • Percentage of women-owned businesses: This metric comes from the U.S. Census Bureau and represents 25% of our score.
  • Unemployment rate:The unemployment rate for each city comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent data, and represents 20% of our overall score.
  • Change in GDP, year over year:The change in gross domestic product, year over year, comes from BEA.gov and represents 15% of our overall score.
  • Networking rank:This metric represents the number of small businesses per capita in each city, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This represents 10% of our overall score.

Out of 400 cities, Alpharetta came out on top, with Peachtree City also making it within the top 10.  Atta grrls!

So my question to Georgians, particularly lady business owners- what is it that makes the Peach State such a great place for us to do business?  Why move here? Plant/ grow your business here?  And more importantly, what may we be doing to hold our spot?

  1. I think part of it has to do with southern girls. We’re raised to know that mama and daddy always have your back, but we can do anything ourselves. We were NOT raised to settle!
